acetate salt raises a handful of sensible questions. This page answers them in order, starting with the fundamentals and moving to applications.
This page was last updated on 2026-05-06 and is reviewed periodically as new material appears.
The sequence places several glycine and proline residues near the middle, which may influence how the chain folds in solution. The peptide is linear rather than cyclic, and it carries no disulfide bridges. Commercial material is commonly supplied as the acetate salt, although the free base and other counterion forms also appear. Because the term BPC-157 refers to a specific sequence, samples with slight sequence variants are chemically different substances. Published work generally treats the fifteen-residue sequence as the defining structure.
Physical descriptions in supplier documents and papers usually list the compound as a white to off-white powder. It dissolves readily in water and in common aqueous buffers, and solutions are often prepared fresh before an experiment. Molecular mass near 1419 daltons helps verify identity during mass spectrometry. The powder is somewhat hygroscopic, so moisture exposure can alter the measured mass of a sample. Purity is typically reported as a percentage from chromatographic analysis.
Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain the activity observed in animal models. The most frequently cited involve signaling through vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 and modulation of the nitric oxide system. Researchers have also described interactions with protective pathways in the gut lining. These proposed mechanisms appear in the literature as hypotheses supported by preclinical observations, not as confirmed pathways in humans. The precise way the peptide produces its reported effects, and whether those effects carry across species, remain areas of active and unresolved investigation.
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide, meaning it consists of fifteen amino acids joined in a single chain. Its sequence is Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val, a fragment corresponding to part of a larger protein found in human gastric juice. The peptide was first described in the 1990s by researchers in Zagreb who were studying gastric protective factors. It is not a naturally circulating hormone; it is a laboratory-made fragment derived from a stomach protein. The name is an abbreviation of body protection compound, with the number referring to the fragment's position in the source protein.

Outside laboratory supply channels, the peptide is sold as a research chemical, a category that carries no requirement to demonstrate purity, identity, or freedom from contamination. Because it is not an approved medicine, products labeled BPC-157 sit in a regulatory gap in many countries, and actual content may differ from the label. Sports organizations list it among prohibited substances, so its presence in an athlete's sample can produce a doping finding regardless of how the material was obtained.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide of fifteen amino acids, written as GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, whose sequence matches part of a larger protein identified in human gastric juice. That parent protein was described in stomach-secretion research, and the fifteen-residue fragment was named body protection compound, which gives the peptide its common label. Material used in experiments is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis rather than extracted from tissue. The reported molecular weight is about 1419 daltons, and the chain contains several proline residues, a feature that appears in discussions of its resistance to enzymatic breakdown.
Most published work on BPC-157 consists of preclinical studies, including rodent models of tissue injury, gastrointestinal lesions, and vascular or tendon damage, together with in vitro cell assays. Reviews frequently note that the mechanisms proposed in these papers remain incompletely characterised and that findings have not been confirmed in large randomised human trials. The compound is widely sold as a research chemical rather than a licensed medicine, and labels commonly carry a statement that it is not for human use. Whether any of the reported animal effects translate to humans is an open question rather than an established result.
Terminology in the literature is not fully standardised. Papers and product listings use BPC-157, BPC 157, and the longer phrase stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 interchangeably, and synonyms such as bepecin or PL 14736 appear in older or company-linked publications. Purity claims and reported masses can also differ between sources because peptide preparations may include counterions, residual solvents, or bound water. This variability complicates direct comparison of results across studies and makes the exact identity and grade of a given sample worth verifying. Discussions of the compound should therefore specify the source, salt form, and stated purity where those are known.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide composed of fifteen amino acid residues, with the sequence Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. Its name derives from body protection compound, a term used for a protein fraction identified in human gastric juice. Researchers in Zagreb first reported the pentadecapeptide in the early 1990s and described it as a stable fragment of that larger protein. The compound is also catalogued as PL 14736 and, in some commercial contexts, as bepecin. Its molecular formula is C62H98N16O22 and its monoisotopic mass is approximately 1419 daltons.
Interest in the peptide has grown through online communities that discuss self-administered use, which sits outside formal research settings. Regulatory status varies by country, and in many jurisdictions the compound is not approved as a therapeutic product. Questions about optimal routes of administration, long-term effects, and dose-response relationships remain open. Published pharmacokinetic data in humans are limited, and much of what circulates in popular discussion is extrapolated from animal work rather than measured directly in people.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids, referred to in the literature as a pentadecapeptide. Its sequence was derived from a larger protein found in human gastric juice, commonly called body protection compound. Researchers first described the fragment in the early 1990s and named it after the parent protein plus a numeric identifier. The peptide does not correspond to a single marketed medicine; it is primarily a laboratory research material. Suppliers distribute it as a lyophilized powder intended for experimental use.

=== Pharmacokinetics === The bioavailability of anastrozole in humans is unknown, but it was found to be well-absorbed in animals. Absorption of anastrozole is linear over a dosage range of 1 to 20 mg/day in humans and does not change with repeated administration. Food does not significantly influence the extent of absorption of anastrozole. Peak levels of anastrozole occur a median 3 hours after administration, but with a wide range of 2 to 12 hours. Steady-state levels of anastrozole are achieved within 7 to 10 days of continuous administration, with 3.5-fold accumulation. However, maximal suppression of estradiol levels occurs within 3 or 4 days of therapy. Active efflux of anastrozole by P-glycoprotein at the blood–brain barrier has been found to limit the central nervous system penetration of anastrozole in rodents, whereas this was not the case with letrozole and vorozole. As such, anastrozole may have peripheral selectivity in humans, although this has yet to be confirmed. In any case, estradiol is synthesized peripherally and readily crosses the blood–brain barrier, so anastrozole would still expected to reduce estradiol levels in the central nervous system to a certain degree. The plasma protein binding of anastrozole is 40%. The metabolism of anastrozole is by N-dealkylation, hydroxylation, and glucuronidation. Inhibition of aromatase is due to anastrozole itself rather than to metabolites, with the major circulating metabolite being inactive. The elimination half-life of anastrozole is 40 to 50 hours (1.7 to 2.1 days).

Half-Life: Hostile Takeover: an expansion pack for the original Half-Life developed by 2015, reportedly cancelled in 2000. Half-Life 2: Episode Three: announced in 2006 with a release date of late 2007, and then put on hold, possibly cancelled due to scope creep, unsatisfactory internal experiments, and the desire to develop the Source 2 engine first. Untitled Half-Life 2 episode: developed by Junction Point Studios and led by Warren Spector. Development ceased when Junction Point signed a deal with Disney Interactive Studios to develop Epic Mickey. Valve took Junction Point's project and passed it to Arkane Studios. Ravenholm (also known as Return to Ravenholm or Half-Life 2: Episode Four): developed by Arkane Studios around 2006–2007, with Opposing Force protagonist Adrian Shephard as the player character and Father Grigori from Half-Life 2 in a supporting role. Half-Life 3: a version of Half-Life 3 was in development on the Source 2 engine from 2013 to 2014. Valve planned to incorporate procedurally generated levels alongside a "crafted experience" so that no two playthroughs of the game would be identical. It was cancelled as Source 2 was not yet stable enough to support full-scale development. Borealis: a virtual reality game led by writer Marc Laidlaw in development in 2015, set aboard the time-travelling ship Borealis. It was cancelled as it failed to gain momentum.

The hypothalamus uses dopamine as a prolactostatin to tell the pituitary to inhibit prolactin; it is also created elsewhere in the brain and the adrenal cortex as a neurotransmitter to affect many other systems. The hypothalamus uses RFRP-3 in mammals or GnIH in avian species to inhibit GnRH. The hypothalamus uses follistatin to tell the pituitary to inhibit follicle-stimulating hormone; it also has many other systemic effects. Myocytes use myostatin to tell each other to inhibit myogenesis. Melanocyte-inhibiting factor (melanostatin) inhibits release of other neuropeptides such as alpha-MSH and also has many other functions. There is a neuropeptide called cortistatin and a class of steroidal cortistatins. Examples of releasing and inhibiting hormones for exocrine hormones are gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) and gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), which regulate gastrin production.
=== Regional organizations === In regional organizations like the European Union, African Union, Indian Ocean Rim Association, NATO, ASEAN, Mercosur, Andean Community and the Organization of American States, there are restrictions on membership due to factors such as geography or political regimes. To enter the European Union (EU), the states require different criteria; member states need to be European, liberal-democratic political system, and be a capitalist economy. The oldest regional organization is the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine, created in 1815 by the Congress of Vienna.
Subcutaneously by injection of methylcobalamin, a form of B12 Oral folinic acid A vitamin and mineral supplement that includes antioxidants, coenzyme Q10 and vitamins B Tetrahydrobiopterin Interestingly, recent DBPC studies have shown that N-acetyl-1-cysteine, a glutathione precursor supplement, is effective in improving the symptoms and behaviours associated with ASD. However, glutathione was not measured in these studies. Small, medium and large DPBC trials and open small and medium-sized clinical trials demonstrate that new treatments for children with ASD for oxidative stress are associated with improvements in baseline symptoms of ASD, sleep, gastrointestinal symptoms, hyperactivity, seizures and parental impression, sensory and motor symptoms. These new treatments include N-acetyl-l-cysteine, methylcobalamin with and without oral folinic acid, vitamin C, and a vitamin and mineral supplement that includes antioxidants, enzyme Q10, and B vitamins. Several other treatments that have antioxidant properties, including carnosine, have also been reported to significantly improve ASD behaviours, suggesting that treatment of oxidative stress could be beneficial for children with ASD. Many antioxidants can also help improve mitochondrial function, suggesting that clinical improvements with antioxidants could occur through a reduction in oxidative stress and an improvement in mitochondrial function. Some of these treatments can have frequent serious side effects such as bronchospasm.

They used adult rats as the subject of their experiment and added amino acids synthesised from isotopic ammonia to their diet. When these diets were applied in nitrogen equilibrium it was found they were incorporated into tissue proteins at an intensive and rapid rate. There was also evidence of chemical transformation as heavy nitrogen was present in amino acids, which were isolated from protein, following ingestion. This chemical transformation was similar to that demonstrated in the fatty acids of his previous experiments on intermediary metabolism. The results of the experiment revealed that body proteins are in a continuous and dynamic state of synthesis and degradation. Schoenheimer and Rittenberg were responsible for discovering that body constituents were in a state of constant chemical renewal, as they were previously believed to be in a static state. Experiments on the metabolism of amino acids, fatty acids, and excretory products are used to support and demonstrate this concept of metabolic "regeneration". These molecules go through a process of replacement and interchange in the body tissue, as well as other transformations and fundamental chemical reactions. This method of isotope labelling molecules enabled Schoenheimer and his colleagues to investigate various issues in intermediary metabolism. By the late 1930s, Schoenheimer's work had contributed to the rising interest in intermediary metabolism and the isotope method.

== History == Methadone was developed in 1937 in Germany by scientists working for I.G. Farbenindustrie AG at the Farbwerke Hoechst who were looking for a synthetic opioid that could be created with readily available precursors, to solve Germany's opium and morphine shortage problem. On 11 September 1941 Bockmühl and Ehrhart filed an application for a patent for a synthetic substance they called Hoechst 10820 or Polamidon (a name still in regular use in Germany) and whose structure had little relation to morphine or other "true opiates" such as diamorphine (Heroin), desomorphine (Permonid), nicomorphine (Vilan), codeine, dihydrocodeine, oxymorphone (Opana), hydromorphone (Dilaudid), oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone (Dicodid), and other closely related opium alkaloid derivatives and analogues. It was brought to market in 1943 and was widely used by the German army during WWII as a substitute for morphine. In the 1930s, pethidine (meperidine) went into production in Germany; however, the production of methadone, then being developed under the designation Hoechst 10820, was not carried forward because of side effects discovered in the early research. After the war, all German patents, trade names, and research records were requisitioned and expropriated by the Allies. The records on the research work of the I.G. Farbenkonzern at the Farbwerke Hoechst were confiscated by the U.S. Department of Commerce Intelligence, investigated by a Technical Industrial Committee of the U.S. Department of State and then brought to the US.

==== The four noble truths ==== According to early suttas like AN 3.61, the second and third noble truths of the four noble truths are directly correlated to the principle of dependent origination. The second truth applies dependent origination in a direct order, while the third truth applies it in inverse order. Furthermore, according to SN 12.28, the noble eight-fold path (the fourth noble truth) is the path which leads to the cessation of the twelve links of dependent origination and as such is the "best of all conditioned states" (AN.II.34). Therefore, according to Harvey, the four noble truths "can be seen as an application of the principle of conditioned co-arising focused particularly on dukkha."

The letters BPC stand for body protection compound. The number 157 refers to a specific fragment designation from early work on gastric proteins. The full name is a label for a synthetic fifteen-amino-acid peptide rather than a naturally isolated drug.
No. The gastric protein is larger, while BPC-157 is a short fragment sequence. The peptide is produced synthetically for research use. The relationship is one of sequence origin, not chemical identity.
It is most often supplied as a lyophilized powder, frequently as the acetate salt. The powder is reconstituted with water or a buffer before use. Free-base and other salt forms also exist but are less common in catalogs.
It is a chain of fifteen amino acids, referred to as a pentadecapeptide. The sequence is Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. It corresponds to a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice.
